How does one say good-bye to a great dog? We think we have prepared ourselves for the inevitable. It doesn’t stop the tears and heartache. It is bittersweet to say the least. The loss is overwhelming and yet there are the smiles through the tears. Remembering that fuzzy white furball that entered our lives. Marveling at his arrival, as he was the only white puppy in a litter of 9. All the others were sables. Remembering the antics of puppyhood; the “atta boys” for his accomplishments; watching him mature into a fine adult and handsome stud; watching him age gracefully; and then the final realization, when the look in his eyes said “it is time to let me go”.

Mygic was a “trend setter”. He didn’t know it, but the Shiloh community surely did! For Mygic was produced by two golden sable parents – Goldie and Grizz. Thus began the quest to produce more White Shilohs.

We proudly and “maybe” selfishly chose Mygic to become a part of Highlander’s up and coming breeding program.

Mygic developed into the most perfect Shiloh. He brought new life to us in many ways. He always appeared self-confident. He was proud, noble, strong, elegant, and always calm with an almost supernatural intelligence. He was by our sides through some of the best times and the worst times of our Shiloh involvements. Whenever I felt overwhelmed with the controversies and the politics, I would look at him and be reminded that he gave meaning to our lives and accomplishments as breeders of the Shiloh Shepherd.

Mygic’s passing was as though a “door had closed”. Perhaps it was so, but Mygic also opened other doors for us and Highlander Shilohs.

We have shared Mygic’s bloodlines with many breeders and his progeny with many Shiloh owners. We continue to share our lives with many of his progeny: sons, daughters, grand daughters and grandsons. Mygic made it possible for us to contribute to the future of the Shiloh Shepherd breed.

Thank you Mygic for “Being all you could be” and allowing us to share that wonderful adventure with you. You will always be in our hearts. Your presence is felt everyday. Watch over our ever growing pack at the Rainbow Bridge. It will be a glorious reunion when we all meet again!

highlander Velvet :: bCHptd. Highlanders Velvet Deelight
sire: Camelot's Happy Strider
dam: bCHptd Walkers-TX Miss Dallas of Zion
June 27, 2003 - Dec 1, 2011

Velvet, Beautiful Velvet. Always so vital and strong! Intense and Alert! Bright and Vibrant! Even to the end. That soft tissue sarcoma would not go away. Your quality of life was more important than my selfish desire to keep you by my side. So with angry tears and breaking heart, I had to make the ultimate sacrifice. You are now pain free and can run with those who have gone before you.

You and I shared many hours bringing your babies into this world and I continue to celebrate your life with your legacy - your offspring : Domino,Maggie, Dana, Lil Goldie, TanGee,Keeper, Angel, Moon and Asia.

Be at peace, Dear Velvet. Miss you. You will forever be in my heart!

Suna :: bCHptd Highlanders Sunawavi-O-Zion
sire: Shenadoah-Zion's Silver Bullet
dam: Zion's Priceless Onyx
Oct 8, 1999 - Aug 31, 2010

She was the only female in a litter of five. Beautiful little smooth grey sable fluff ball. When placed in my arms at four weeks of age, she hugged me, nuzzled my neck and wagged her tail. Love at first sight! At 9 weeks of age, I thought I was going to lose her. She became very ill. She and I spent the whole weekend nursing her back to health. We went to shows, homecomings, road trips. There were situations that she did not care for, but she was always willing to trust me through them all and I in turn trusted her. I sat with her through her deliveries of three litters of pups. She was a great Mom . The best times were watching her play with those babies when they were a few weeks old. Her tenderness and patience always amazed me. Her name, Sunawavi, is a native American term meaning Spirit of the Wolf. There was always a bit of mystique surrounding Suna, so I believe she was aptly named. Her intuitiveness was uncanny, her willingness to please was unbelievable, the bond between us will never be duplicated by any other. In the beginning, when I had to be away for a few days at a time, she would not eat. That was always upsetting to her caretakers and myself. She did get over that when she discovered that I would return. When the time finally came to say "good bye", it was mutual. She looked at me and I knew. She went peacefully as I sat by her side. My Sunawavi is now whole again and can run amongst those who have gone before her. I believe she visited me last night as I felt her brush against my legs as I was preparing meals for our pack. No other dog was near me, so I know it was her. That was her favorite time of day. So I say farewell to my Sunawavi, till we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge. Run with the spirits for whom you were named after.

Duncan :: bCHptd Highlanders Duncan McCleod
sire: GV.abCH Hilltop's Triton King of Zion
dam: Zion's A-Trib-To Storm'n Terra
July 3, 1998 - Dec 3, 2008

Duncan was the only dog that we had here that felt that everyone came to see Him. He always had a friendly "woof" and a wet nose and kiss for all who ventured here and at the same time was ever vigil of all that happened around the property. Duncan was always kind to all the other pack members and loved all the puppies that we brought home and whelped here. He will be greatly missed. They are never with us long enough and some have more impact on us than others. Duncan was always "my boy" and his absence is sorely felt.

"Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent.
To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden,
where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace." - Milan Kundera
